The preparation recipe in 10 steps

  1. Find the old Meade LX10 mount in the basement
  2. Make sure it can still follow something with its old synchronous motor
  3. Replace the starter capacitor (more than 25 years old)
  4. Build a new stage suited for the old Vivitar 500mm f /6.3 I had almost never used seriously
  5. Equip with a small finder and a solar projection screen
  6. Build a solar filter with OD 5.6 sheet and two pieces of cardboard painted black beforehand
  7. Cook under the sun for a few hours with the Canon 5D Mark II at the back and make several test shots
  8. Measure vibrations and their damping delay
  9. Realize that I will never be able to look at the sun and take pictures at the same time if I control the capture from the computer...
  10. Order a small intervalometer to lift the camera's mirror first and then take each picture. Thereafter, train, train and train again to trigger the camera and make  manual speed changes almost automatic.
